AxMurder.com is published by longtime journalists Laurie Bennett and Nancy Monaghan, whose fascination with the crime began in 1982, when Cathleen Krauseneck was slaughtered in her bed in Brighton, NY, a suburb of Rochester.

Monaghan at the time was metro editor of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. Bennett was a courts reporter with the competing Rochester Times-Union. Monaghan oversaw staff coverage of the murder for her newspaper while Bennett later wrote in-depth pieces about the unsolved case for the Times-Union and, later, for the Detroit News.

Thirty-four years later, the unsolved case became active again, with the collaboration of the Brighton Police Department and the FBI’s cold case unit. Bennett and Monaghan joined forces to begin work on a book.

In November 2019, Cathy’s husband, Jim, was indicted for her murder. He was convicted in 2022 and sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. Bennett and Monaghan are writing a book about the case.
